2017 Visit to China
On September 24, 2017, an Alameda delegation traveled to China and spent a week visiting the Sister City of JiangYin, Friendship City of Wuxi, and Shanghai. The delegation included:
Trip Summary:
Sunday, 9/24: The delegation flew from Seoul, South Korea to Shanghai Pudong Airport of China. it was a rainy day and representatives from the JiangYin Foreign Affairs office drove two vans to pick up the delegation and transport them to JiangYin. The delegation was treated to a simple 20 course meal before heading to the Sheraton Hotel of JiangYin.
Monday, 9/25: The delegation group visited the Friendship stone setup at Xu Xiake Middle school (徐霞客中学) of XuXiake town. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the JiangYin old tradition furniture Museum (the original plan was to visit the JiangYin local development zone, but was cancelled because of the heavy rain).
Tuesday, 9/26: Visited the Huaxi Village（华西村）, including the village hotel building with Gold decoration. In the afternoon, visited another village with a Horse Museum and local clothes manufacturer. Before dinner, the delegation officially met with the Mayor of JiangYin city.
Wednesday, 9/27: In the morning, the delegation checked out of the JiangYin hotel and drove around Wuxi for a city tour. In the evening, the delegation enjoyed a celebration for China National Day and a grand buffet. They also met with Mayor of Wuxi briefly at the event. In the evening, the delegation was transported by the JiangYin foreign affairs office to the hotel in Shanghai.
Thursday, 9/28: Met with the local leader of the Shanghai foreign affairs office and enjoyed lunch. In the afternoon, visited the 2nd tallest building in the world in the Pudong new development zone and toured the local sites. In the evening, the delegation enjoyed delicious dumplings, shopped the night market, and took a ferry to see the Bund of Shanghai night view.
Friday, 9/29: Most of delegation members left Shanghai to return to the US. Mayor Spencer visited the Alibaba new supermarket with QR payment system ( paid by QR code, not only cash). In the afternoon, the Mayor visited the Jewish Refugee Museum in Shanghai.
Saturday, 9/30: Mayor Spencer visited Shanghai Disneyland.
Sunday, 10/1: Mayor Spencer, Alex and Dishun return to the US.
