Project City: Asuchio El Salvador

Alameda’s relationship with Asuchio dates back to 1998 when a delegation from St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Alameda visited Asuchio and began ties with the Catholic community in Asuchio and neighboring Zaragoza, both in the department of La Libertad. The relationship continued with members of Asuchio community, including a member of the Directiva (town council) visiting Alameda in 1999. Alamedans have raised funds to replace the earthquake damaged church in Asuchio, construct a library and fund child-development/pre-school program in Asuchio. A goal of official status, with a signed agreement between Asuchio and Alameda is being considered.
